Reported Speech

John said he couldn't help but feel maybe there was more going on in his head.

Grace explained that those who were time-abandoned experienced time differently than others.

She said that they also had a different perception of time compared to most people.

Grace noted that every minute wasn't the same length for them.

She claimed that, if they had a deadline, they could work very effectively.

John mentioned that a 2016 study by psychologists at Washington University had found something similar.

He said that the university had looked into the ability to mentally measure time, describing it as Time-Based Prospective Memory.

Studies showed that participants were given a set time to complete a task and even had access to a clock they were allowed to check.

John concluded that the task had been designed to distract people and test their focus on estimating time. He noted that some people were naturally better at estimating the passage of time.

John claimed that what frustrated him was that he wasn’t late for everything. He said he never missed flights, was pretty good with trains, but getting his daughter to nursery on time or arriving early for social gatherings was always a struggle.

Grace mentioned that they weren't late for everything either. They could be on time when it mattered.

Grace said that this was meaningful to them because it showed.
